7 DAYS KILIMANJARO HIKING MACHAME ROUTE
DAY 1: MACHAME GATE TO MACHAME CAMP.
After an early breakfast at the hotel in Arusha, you will be driven by the driver from access budget safaris to Machame Village. Here you are to buy mineral water and receive a packed lunch, then continue up to the gate of Machame. While at the gate, the Porters will prepare and pack belongings for the climb as we register with Tanzania National Park. You will then start climbing in could forest, there we expect rain mud and fog and also to have a look at the wildlife and also Colobus monkeys. About halfway up the track, you will have a lunch break and you will reach Machame Camp. Early in the evening, the Porters will set up your tents and Chef prepares snacks and drinking water for your coming. The after you will be served and slumber, remember that Temperatures at night may fall to freezing; please get prepared.
DAY 2 MACHAME CAMP TO SHIRA CAMP
After an early morning breakfast, you will start climbing from could forest to heathland and you will cross many streams and rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau thus leading to Shira Camp next to a stream and you will have an amazing view of Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Your tents will be set up, take some snacks then after dinner and slumber for the next morning and also night Temperature is extremely cold, you need to be prepared.
DAY 3 SHIRA CAMP TO LAVA TOWER TO BARRANCO CAMP.
Next, to your early morning breakfast, you will depart the moorland, entering the semi-desert and rocky landscape. After like five hours, you will reach the Lava Tower. Have a packed lunch and hikers have an option of climbing the Great Lava Tower Weather Permitting. At this point, you may start experiencing headaches and shortness of breath but this is normal for hikers. After lunch, move to Barranco Campsite The 6800m depreciation gives Hikers a big advantage of relaxation against high altitude; it’s in the valley below the Breach and Great Barranco wall. View the sun setting and you will be served with dinner.
DAY 4 FROM BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAP.
Following the early morning breakfast, it’s the time to overcome the Great Barranco wall! At the top of the wall, you will be able to see the Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds! The follow the winds up and down in the Karanga Valley making it perfect climbing day getting used to. DAY
5 KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU HUT
After your early morning breakfast, leave Karanga camp then the track divides with the Mweka Route which is the trail used to descend on the final two days. As you go on climbing for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is where the last water stops for the Porters because there is no access to water at the Camp. ‘ BARAFU’ is a Swahili word meaning ‘ice’ and the Camp is on a rocky exposed ridge. Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks so please, get used with the campsite before night. An early breakfast will be served so climbers can relax before climbing the peak the same night. You will be briefed on how to prepare for the summit night.
DAY 6 ATTEMPTING THE PEAK FROM BARAFU CAMP TO UHURU PEAK TO MWEKA.
You will wake up for morning tea and then begin to attempt the peak. During the climb, hikers feel that this is the most challenging part of the hike, in about six hours; you will reach Stella Point located on the Crater edge. You will enjoy a wonderful sunrise then continue for two hours on a snow-covered trace to Uhuru Peak. REACHING THE PEAK OF MT. KILIMANJARO IS A WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENT. You will spend a short time at the peak, take photographs and drink tea before hiking down to Barafu. The descent to Barafu takes around three (3) hours. At the camp, you will rest and have lunch, then after continue down to Mweka Hut. From here you will move through the rocks, to moorland then to could forest. While at MWEKA, expect rain and fog since it in the upper rain forest.
DAY 7 MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE
After having your breakfast, there will be celebrations and it is here that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s) and porters. From here, you will descend to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Those who reached Stella Point receive a green certificate, and those who reached Uhuru Peak receive a gold certificate. Then after, move to Mweka, three kilometers, have lunch then we drive you back to Arusha for more celebrations.
