DAY 1 UMBWE GATE TO BOVOUAC CAM

after having the early morning breakfast, head to UMBWE GATE with a guide from accessbudgetsafaris.com first getting a packed Lunch in the nearby Village and mineral water, for the climb. At the entrance gate, the Guides and Porters prepare belongings and register with Tanzania National Park Authority (TANAPA) then you start the hike into the rain forest where you will some Colobus monkeys on the way and you will have your lunch at BIVOUAC CAMP. Early in the evening, the Chef will prepare for you snacks then after dinner. Be aware that temperatures fall to freezing point at night, have enough preparation.

DAY 2: BIVOUAC CAMP TO BARRANCO CAMP

Following an early morning breakfast, you will ascend from the rainforest and enter the heathland moorland vegetation where you will experience exotic plants including giant lobelia and groundsel and wonderful view of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Barraco Valley up to Barranco Camp which is next to a stream and have wonderful view of the Western breach and Great Barranco wall in the East. On reaching the Camp, your tents would already be set up by the Porters and drinking water for you. Start enjoying the evening with some snacks then dinner prepared by the Chef then overnight while prepared for cold night temperatures below freezing at this exposed Camp.

DAY 3: BARRANCO CAMP TO LAVA TOWER THEN TO ARROW GLACIER CAMP

After the early morning breakfast, ascend leaving the moorland environment and enter the semi desert and rocky landscape then continue hiking east up to the Great Lava Tower where you will have your Packed lunch and you have an option of hiking the Great Lava Tower weather permitting. You may start feeling headaches and shortness of breath due to altitudes which is normal for hikers.

Following lunch, move up the steep Class 2 trail to the Arrow Glacier Camp where the vegetation is sparse. You will be provided with snacks, dinner and then you overnight stay here.

DAY 4: ARROW GLACIER TO CRATER

Following the early morning breakfast, ascend up the class 2 trail on rock. During the rainy season, an ice ax and crampons are required due to icy condition then proceed slowly up to western breach to the Crater and you enjoy the Northern Ice field of Kilimanjaro with the Furtwangler directly in front of you. You will have an option of completing a day hike to the infamous Ash pit (1.5 hour) of Mt. Kilimanjaro which is 340m across and 120m deep. Dinner and be one of the few and fortunate hikers to stay at the inner, snow-covered crater of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

DAY 5: ATTEMPTING THE PEAK

The Guide will wake you up for tea then you start attempting the summit passing through a rocky trail up to Hans Meyer Cave and you go on up to Gillman’s point which is located on the Crater rim then from here, the path is snow covered up to when you reach Uhuru Peak.             You will spend short time taking photographs and drinking some tea then you descend to Barafu which will take about 3 hours where you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun then continue to Mweka Hut which is located in the upper rain forest, so fog and rain should be expected. Have your dinner and overnight here.

DAY 6: MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE

After having your breakfast, there will be cerebrations and it is here that you will present your tips to the guide, assistant guides, chef(s) and porters. From here, you will descend to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Those who reached Stella Point receive green certificate, and those who reached Uhuru Peak receive gold certificate.

Then after, move to Mweka Village, three kilometers, have lunch then we drive you back to Arusha for more cerebrations.

NOTE: Safety conditions or weather may cause the safari to change without warning! Hike time is estimated, calculated to form a comfortable pace throughout the hike so, the safari above serves as a guide. You can add extra day if you wish. You can attempt Mt. Kilimanjaro summit via Arrow Glacier or Barafu Camp with Umbwe Route.
